About Me

Shoccara Marcus began her romance with the arts through dance. It was at Howard University where Ms. Marcus picked up a camera in collaboration with her dancing. She earned a BFA in Dance with a minor in Visual Arts-Photography and later obtained an MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design (Atlanta, GA). Her photography, represented by the esteemed Arnika Dawkins Gallery, has been showcased nationally and internationally and is included in notable collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA GA) in Atlanta and the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at Howard University.

She has been awarded residencies at the Hambidge Center for the Arts and the Cousins Promenade Building in Atlanta. In 2022, as part of Dance Stories ATL, a documentary company she co-founded, Marcus produced Five Stories, a documentary highlighting Atlanta's pioneering Black dance studios

A couple of her published works consist of Inspired Georgia, a book which features many of Georgia's best poets and photographers and Dance Atlanta! a postcard set of images Commissioned by Brown Girls Do Ballet capturing the iconic locations around the city of Atlanta. Through her Bronze in First posters, Marcus celebrates the artistry and diversity of Black and Brown dancers. She remains deeply committed to spotlighting the narratives of Black dance artists in and around Atlanta
