About Shoccara
Shoccara Marcus didn’t just learn movement—she lived it. Before stepping behind the camera, she was a dancer, and that foundation shapes everything she creates. Her understanding of lines, intention, and presence goes beyond simply capturing a moment—she guides it.
Today, Shoccara is a commercial movement photographer based in Atlanta, creating powerful imagery for dancers, athletes, and brands who want their work to be seen and felt. Her work is rooted in direction, not guesswork. She helps clients refine their movement, adjust their lines, and show up fully in front of the camera so the final image reflects their true level. No stiff poses. No confusion. Just clarity and intention.
She works with dancers preparing for their next level, athletes and fitness professionals building their brand, colleges and arts organizations, and brands looking for dynamic, movement-driven campaign visuals. If the work involves movement, discipline, and presence—she knows how to capture it.
Shoccara earned her BFA in Dance from Howard University and her MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design (Atlanta). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) and the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at Howard University. She is represented by Arnika Dawkins Gallery and has been awarded residencies at the Hambidge Center for the Arts and the Cousins Promenade Building in Atlanta.
As part of Dance Stories ATL, she produced Five Stories, a documentary highlighting Atlanta’s pioneering Black dance studios. Through her work and her educational brand, Bronze in First, she remains committed to creating visuals that reflect the artistry, strength, and diversity of Black and Brown dancers.
